Purpose and Mission

NC 20 is a 501-C-4 non-profit corporation organized in 2009 as an association of members having a common interest in economic development within the twenty coastal CAMA counties of NC. The purpose and mission of NC 20 is:

• To gather, collect and share accurate and objective information that may impact the common interests of the citizens and governments within the twenty coastal counties;
• To advocate that environmental and economic goals are not mutually exclusive, but rather necessary components of longer term, positive development of the coastal region;
• To encourage a coalition of coastal governments to work together to promote and defend the common environmental and economic development interests of the region, and educate the larger citizenry of North Carolina about such issues; and
• To support common environmental and economic development interests within the twenty coastal CAMA counties through coordinated communication, information sharing, data collection and monitoring, credible and unbiased scientific research, and proactive interaction with legislative and executive decision makers at all levels of government.
  
  Our main base of support is derived from county and city governments that are acting to promote and defend their economic interests with respect to governmental regulations and actions. We are concerned and involved with those aspects of government policy or regulation that can hamper or retard economic growth and investment in our communities to the extent that the government action in question is not equitable or is based on inadequate science or uninformed opinion. Private property rights are very much a concern of this non-profit corporation.
